Email problems with Yahoo – Why would any real professional use Yahoo??!!

By mhobach | February 8, 2008

We have had many setbacks over the last couple of weeks – if you live in Wisconsin you know that we have had several crippling snow storms and some sub-zero temps. Couple this with an Email issue with Yahoo and we are behind two weeks on this project. Please look at this article in our knowledge base regarding the Emails…

I’m not sure what the problem is with Yahoo and what they have chosen to do with incoming Email. Over the last couple of months my Yahoo Email has been deluged with Spam, yet my own Email doesn’t make it. Sometimes Email is delayed 4 hours, and other times up to 4 days – imagine 4 days!

Ok, now I maintain Email addresses on every ‘Free Email’ site that I can. I do this for testing purposes and so that I have someplace that I can get Email while I only have a browser for access. I’m now switching from Yahoo to Gmail…

Last week in just a 24 hr period my ‘bulk’ and inbox were filled with pron Spam from some Email address at yahoo.co.uk. I kid you not – every Spam Email was from within Yahoo’s own system. Yet MY EMAIL from a legitimate double opt-in tripple verified – clean server doesn’t get in for nothing.

I’ve filled out all of the forms that Yahoo is asking for – I’ve implimented SPF and DomainKeys for the server and all domains that I send Email from. Still our Email gets hung up and can’t be delivered in a reasonable time.

Server after server, we get the same message – this entry is after 8 hours!

Ok – so we seem to be seeing an improvement after making some adjustments to the mail server – after a lot of reading and investigating we have put into place some special settings when connecting to Yahoo mail servers, but it still isn’t perfect!

We will continue to see what we can do to improve deliverability…
